A week full of firsts:
-seeing Sherlock Holmes for free (great movie, kudos to Guy Ritchie)
-seeing my first movie in 3D (Avatar)
-creating my first 3D illustration (see above)
-a good experience using 2 pillows while sleeping.
-I think I’m a new fan of Steampunk.
And last but not least, my yoga class started this week. Yay!
It’s typical that the new year should bring a new way of looking at life, at love, at work… pretty much everything. Although I don’t really make ‘resolutions’, I do try to use the start of a new year to better myself with challenges. This year, I’m going to really try and organize myself. That, my friends, is no easy task.
I’ve even gone to the extent of making a ‘weekly schedule’ of sorts, to try and whittle down that never-ending To-Do List. I have days set aside specifically for every facet of my life that I deem important (or should), like designing new things, knitting, sewing, socializing (yes, I’ve scheduled that in… don’t laugh!), and of course art. I mean hands-on art, not just sit-googly-eyed-in-front-of-the-Mac kind of art.
Oh, and I’ve opened up a new Etsy shop dedicated to graphic design! Right now I’m dealing specifically with printables (meaning buy the design, print at home or at a copy shop), but hopefully with time (and the elusive dollar) I will be able to offer printed goods as well. Visit me at paperwhitedesign.etsy.com!
My old shop still exists at crystalklassen.etsy.com, but I’ll be selling more fine art, photography, etc in that one. Hopefully, with my new ’schedule’, I’ll be posting some more goods in that shop as well! Phew. I just hope I can keep up.
A look back at New Years ‘09:
-road trip to Borden SK to the Model T Bar & Grille
-free yummy appies!
-masquerade!
-lots of fun, gonna make it an annual tradition methinks.

How was YOUR start to the new year?
I’ve been avoiding email and blogging during the holidays this year, mostly because I’m staying with my parents, and they happen to have the s-l-o-w-e-s-t internet connection in North America. That is, when the internet connectivity is actually available.
But electronic conveniences aside, it’s been a lovely holiday, complete with cottony soft snow, warm fires in the hearth and in the wilderness, hot cocoa, chocolate cream pies, kids tearing into brightly colored packages, sparkly lights and visits to old haunts. I haven’t actually seen any friends yet, but I plan to make sure that happens sooner than later.

I’ve got some ideas and projects in the works, and events coming up that I don’t want to miss (can anyone say “disco inferno?!”) More to come!

I recently rescued a vintage makeup suitcase from my parents’ basement. After a bit of a cleanup and some glue here and there, she’s ready to see the road again.
I’m really beginning to get into vintage… that is, anything from the early 20th century. As you might have noticed, that’s my vintage sewing machine in the background of these pictures.

I also landed some old-school Christmas lights this year too, the kind that are basically ’space heaters that give off light’ as I’ve heard someone phrase it. The new LEDs just don’t compare to the soft glow of the traditional incandescent. Our tree has been sporting LEDs for the past couple of years, and I just find them hideous. No matter what ‘colour’ of white you buy, it always feels like you’re being bathed in overhead flourescents that flicker and drive you nuts… you know the ones I mean. I wonder if they’ll ever be able to fix that.
How do you decorate your tree?
